A central objective of the project is to promote the comprehensive planning and monitoring of the management of coastal areas. Here, spatial data and geographic information systems (GIS) are useful tool. Spatial data layers can be examined simultaneously to identify 1) sites subject to potential conflicts, i.e. areas where other use of the coastal areas may restrict grazing, and 2) sites where grazing supports the protection of biodiversity, and/or tourism and recreational use. The data can be used for planning the use of the coastal areas and the management of the shores.
Measures
- GIS analysis jointly with stakeholder work will be used to identify: 1) key valuable nature sites (nature value classification); 2) areas of tourism, recreational use and residential areas; 3) sources of water pollution; and 4) management areas (pastures, mowing areas).
- The potential for using spatial data and nature value classification in planning and management of coastal areas, as well as in the regional monitoring of the effectiveness of management, will be investigated with stakeholders.
Outcomes
- Spatial data (at a precision of one hectare) to support management planning.
- Nature value classification and classification criteria for the coastal area.
- Map presentations of the locations of valuable nature sites and the different forms of use.
- A proposal for a monitoring model for the regional monitoring of management.
